The Allianz Care CERN MPA Healthcare Plan for Associated Members of the CERN Personnel is a comprehensive insurance solution designed specifically for international scientists coming to CERN. Covering a range of in-patient and out-patient treatments, as well as evacuation and repatriation, our plan offers peace of mind for you and your accompanying family members worldwide (excl. USA). This plan includes cover for medical expenses incurred as a result of an illness as well as cover for both private and occupational accidents within the terms of your policy.

With six different periods of cover available, ranging from 30 days up to 180 days, you can select the cover period which best suits the duration of your MPA agreement with CERN. 

The minimum period of cover available is 30 days and the maximum period of cover available is 180 days. If you stay more than 180 days (6 months), you can simply buy a new period of cover as long as you continue to be eligible and your contract of association with CERN is extended.

Getting out-patient or dental treatment

The Claim Form should be completed and returned to us if you are seeking reimbursement of out-patient/dental expenses. Please note that we also have a mobile app for fast and easy claims submission.

Getting in-patient treatment


A Treatment Guarantee Form should be completed and returned to us prior to in-patient treatment (or any other treatments/benefits listed on your Table of Benefits as requiring Treatment Guarantee). For your convenience, once we receive the completed form, we will contact the hospital to arrange for the direct settlement of approved treatments.

In order to be eligible for insurance cover under the Allianz Care Healthcare Plan for CERN MPAs, your age of entry must not exceed 75 years and you must have a valid contract of association with CERN. 

In addition to the above, cover for members without a valid Swiss "P" legitimation card and who reside in Switzerland is limited to an overall maximum period of 90 days.

Dependents may also be covered under the Plan provided they accompany you to reside in the French or Swiss region around CERN during the period of cover. 

Should you wish to stay more than 180 days (6 months), you can simply buy a new period of cover as long as you continue to be eligible. 

Note:
The cover provided by Allianz Care is not a substitute for compulsory health insurance in your home country or host country, France or Switzerland. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that you are compliant with any statutory compulsory health insurance requirements.
How do I apply for my insurance if I want to take out cover with Allianz Care for the first time?

Simply visit our website at https://cernmpahealthcareplan.org/ and apply through  the “online application” button.

Once your cover has expired, please visit https://cernmpahealthcareplan.org/ and simply apply for a new cover via this link.

What is the total cost of my premium rates and is this the same per member, employee, child and adult?

Please note that the cost will depend on the chosen period and the number of insured people. The cost is outlined per person with no distinction between adults, employees or children.
What do I do and what do I have to know if I am going to have planned in-patient treatment?


Download a Treatment Guarantee Form and send the completed form to us at least five working days before treatment, by:

  • Fax to: + 32 2 210 6597 or post to the address shown on the form.

  • Our Helpline can take Treatment Guarantee Form details over the phone if treatment is taking place within 72 hours
Am I covered for private or semi-private accommodation?

You benefit from full insurance cover in case of admissions whereby you stay in a general ward. In case of (semi-)private room admissions, our contribution for the bed and board will be limited to a maximum monetary amount per night. This will be indicated when submitting your Treatment Guarantee request.
What hospitals am I covered for?

You have full freedom of choice worldwide, excluding the USA. Feel free to make use of the Provider Finder.
How do I submit my claims?

Please send your fully completed Claim Form(s) with invoices/receipts as follows:

  • By post to: Claims Department, Allianz Partners, 15 Joyce Way, Park West Business Campus, Nangor Road, Dublin 12, Ireland.

While the above options remain available at any time, an ever increasing number of new claims are submitted to us via our MyHealth app (available free of charge to Android and iOS users).

Am I covered for vaccinations or health and wellbeing checks?

Vaccinations are covered with full refund up to the maximum annual limit of your out-patient plan.  Preventative health check-ups are not covered by the CERN MPA medical plan, however we offer cover for well child tests for children insured in the plan up to six years of age and cover this up to a maximum of 500 euro annually per year.
What do I do if I am making a bank transfer payment for my premium and how long does the application process take?

Your application will be processed within 5 working days. If the payment is “bank transfer” the activation of your policy will be done upon reception and allocation of your premium payment.

Kindly note that the time frame for the reception of the payment can vary if the chosen payment is via bank transfer.

Can I add my dependants to the plan?

At the inception of your policy you can add as many dependants as you need – each of them being charged at the same rate since the cost is per person insured. 

However, after the inception of your policy, only new-borns can be added within a maximum time frame of 4 weeks after birth.  Regarding the cost of such addition, please note that the child must  have a policy with the same length of the policy holder (cost wise) and ending at the same exact date.

 

Example:

  • Policy holder has a 30 days cover for 306 EUR, starting the 01-April-2019 and ending the 30-April-2019.
  • Child born the 20-April-2019.

Total cost for the child to be added will be 306 EUR for a policy ending the 30-April-2019.
