Dutch Sailor
4 time sailboat World Champion
Born on 17 June 1988 in Wartena, Friesland, Marit Bouwneester grew up on the water, like most people from this area in The Netherlands. From the age of 6 she could be found more on a boat than on land. For her brother Roelof, a successful sailing career was ascribed. By working really hard for it, Marit also emerged as "talented".
Good to know: she doesn't believe in the term talent. Without hard work and making sacrifices you will never fully excel. Long story short: in the end her brother sailed a different route to the Olympus... he is now her coach. After a silver medal at the Games in London 2012, Marit won the first Olympic gold medal for the Netherlands in a sailboat in 80 years in Rio 2016. And during the Games in Tokyo 2021 she won bronze and since then she's the proud owner of all Olympic colours. Besides that she's a four time World Champion and three time European Champion.
It makes her the most successful Dutch sailor ever. Through her long and at times successful career Marit has been able to learn a lot about herself, but especially about personal development and self-management. She is excited to pass this knowledge to other people.
