Many people struggle with sleep, and we're here to help. Sleep is more than just rest, it's your body's natural way to repair, recharge, and refresh. Even small improvements can make a noticeable difference in how you feel each day.

Sleep and mental health are closely linked. When stress or anxiety builds up, it can be harder to unwind and get the restorative rest your body and mind need. Over time, this can create a cycle where emotional strain and disrupted sleep reinforce one another.

During particularly demanding periods, the Expat Assistance Programme (EAP), included in most of our plans, offers confidential support from qualified professionals to help you manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional pressures. By supporting your mental wellbeing, EAP counselling may help restore balance, resilience, and improve your overall sleep experience.
To access EAP counselling support, simply Login to MyHealth → Health Assistant → Health & Wellness hub → Telus Health One.

To check your cover, login to MyHealth digital services (app or portal). Once logged in, click on 'My Benefits' to view all benefits included in your plan. You can also consult your Benefit Guide available on the Home page of the MyHealth - simply click on 'View Policy' and then go to 'Documents'.

In the Beyond Wellbeing podcast, Dr Oscar Duke is joined by sleep expert Dr Lindsay Browning to explore why constant fatigue has become so common. Discover how sleep really works, the everyday habits that drain your energy and simple changes to help you wake up feeling refreshed.

Specific Questions About Sleep Health and Related Benefits

To improve sleep quality, focus on creating a calming bedtime routine, reducing screen time before bed, keeping your bedroom cool and comfortable, and avoiding stimulants like caffeine in the evening. Check the resources under “Sleep Hygiene” for more detailed tips to help you get started.

Sleep hygiene refers to the habits and practices that promote good sleep. It’s important because it helps you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up feeling refreshed. Poor sleep hygiene can lead to sleep disturbances and fatigue.

Sleep needs vary by age and individual, but most adults require 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Children and teenagers need more sleep to support their growth and development.  While sleep needs vary significantly among individuals, consider these general guidelines for different age groups:

If your plan includes coverage for sleep apnoea, it may cover medically necessary treatments and diagnostic procedures, such as sleep studies, professional fees, medical aids (e.g., CPAP machines), and prescribed medications. As coverage varies across plans, please refer to your Table of Benefits, available on MyHealth app or portal, to confirm if sleep apnoea treatment  is included in your plan.

If you struggle to fall asleep, try relaxing activities before bed, such as reading, meditating, or taking a warm bath. Avoid screens and bright lights, and create a consistent bedtime routine. Check the “ Sleep hygiene” section for more tips to help you fall asleep faster. Plus,  most plans offer access to a Sleep and meditation app, which includes a variety of features designed to help you unwind.

Common sleep disruptors include stress, screen time, caffeine, irregular sleep schedules, and an uncomfortable sleep environment. Check the “ Healthy Sleep Routine” section for more tips to help you have a better sleep.

Some plans exclude certain sleep disorder treatments, such as those for insomnia, snoring, or bruxism. It’s important to review your Table of Benefits and Benefit guide (exclusions section) to understand what is and isn’t covered.
