Allianz Partners launches ‘Paths to Prevention’ campaign on the preventability of the world’s leading causes of death

Allianz Partners
, a global leader in insurance and assistance services, has launched Paths to Prevention, a new health campaign on reducing the risks of developing chronic diseases, with a focus on cardiovascular disease, lung disease, cancer, diabetes and dementia.

Developed in collaboration with expert medical advice, this video-led, social-first series aims to empower the public with accessible and actionable information on how simple lifestyle changes can yield significant long-term health benefits.

The first episode delves into the risk factors and preventative measures associated with cardiovascular disease – the world’s leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for approximately one in three deaths globally (i) or around 18 million annually. (ii)

Remarkably, up to 80-90% of cardiovascular cases (iii), may be preventable through healthier habits and simple lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, quitting smoking, better sleep, and monitoring key health indicators more closely, such as blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. (iv)

Allianz Partners’ Generational Health Insights Report previously highlighted a significant lack of public awareness around chronic diseases.  While contributors listed Covid-19 and the flu as “preventable diseases”, participants failed to mention the major chronic diseases, despite the deadly impact of these illnesses on the population.

"Paths to Prevention" seeks to address this gap by equipping individuals with practical knowledge to support a longer, healthier life. By fostering small yet impactful daily habits, campaigns like this could also help to alleviate long-term pressures on global healthcare systems.

The series features Dr. Ulli Sucher, Medical Director for Allianz Partners health business. Throughout the campaign, Dr. Sucher explains the warning signs, risk factors, and realistic prevention strategies for each of the five chronic conditions.

“This campaign builds on our long-term commitment to raising awareness of chronic diseases and, more importantly, the steps we can take to prevent them. These conditions are the leading cause of illness, disability, and healthcare costs globally, responsible for 41 million deaths each year. By equipping people with simple, science-backed guidance, we hope to inspire meaningful change and help reduce the impact of chronic illnesses worldwide. These chronic illnesses do not have to be an inevitable part of people’s lives”

“Our objective is to shift the focus from treating illness to fostering lifelong wellbeing. Chronic diseases like heart disease are often perceived as unavoidable – but many are preventable. Prevention isn’t just about avoiding illness; it's about enhancing quality of life and longevity. We want to help people feel in control of their health and be motivated to take simple steps like moving more, eating better, and staying on top of regular health checks. We made a conscious decision to include dementia in this series because, while it may not be one of the top five chronic diseases today, with the growing proportion of older adults in the population of many countries, this is something we need to put more of a focus on when it comes to healthcare.”
