It’s estimated that there are approximately 40 million digital nomads scattered throughout the world, and that number is expected to rise to about 60 million by 2030. With more and more people embracing a location-independent, technology-enabled lifestyle, we’ve put together a list of some of Europe's top digital nomad hotspots.

Barcelona’s beachside location, beautiful year-round weather, bustling city atmosphere, and large expat community, makes it an attractive destination for digital nomads. Around 20 per cent of the city’s residents are foreign-born, and a large proportion of those are digital nomads. . 
Budapest, the historic capital of Hungary, is best known for affordable rent prices, friendly locals, and thermal baths. The city’s vibe is a lot more laid-back than other big European cities. You can apply for a Hungary White Card, which is a residence permit for remote workers earning at least €3,000 per month. 
Dubrovnik is attracting digital nomads looking for a seaside city, low cost of living, and vibrant culture. It is a very safe city for residents and visitors alike, and English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. The best time to visit is during the spring and autumn, with fewer crowds, and more affordable accommodation options compared to the peak summer season. 
With Kraków’s thriving start-up scene, and low cost of living, it’s no wonder it’s been popular amongst digital nomads for years. It is often cited as one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe, and is full of culture and art. Kraków also offers free Wi-Fi at a number of public locations and coworking spaces are not expensive. There’s also a large expat community, making it easy to connect with others.  
Portugal’s capital Lisbon is known for its favourable climate, growing start-up scene, and affordable cost of living - although rent is on the rise. The city offers a laid-back lifestyle, excellent coworking spaces, and a large welcoming community for digital nomads. With its hot summers and mild winters, it’s the ideal location for those chasing a warmer climate.  
Prague’s digital nomad scene is flourishing. The city's picturesque landscapes and medieval charm make it the ideal backdrop for remote workers. It has been ranked among the most beautiful cities in the world. The digital nomad visa allows freelancers and highly-skilled remote employees to work from the country for one year. 
Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, is quickly becoming the perfect destination for digital nomads thanks to its affordable living costs, an international community, thriving tech scene, favourable taxes, and vast list of things to do. Sofia’s mix of Eastern and Western influences makes it an exciting place to forge a digital career.
